About Us

Since 1986, Craig Knippenberg and Associates have been providing experienced client centered care with preschool children through young adults. We specialize in the treatment of neurobehavioral disorders--ADHD, Learning Disabilities, Autism Spectrum/Asperger's Syndrome, Anxiety Disorders and Depression. The practice has grown, adding therapists in a wide range of specialties, including individual, marriage and family, groups, life adjustment issues, drug and alcohol counseling, psychoeducational testing, home-based family therapy, and parenting classes.

We also conduct parent/professional training and lectures on the challenges that neurobehavioral disorders present in school, home, and work environments. We offer a wide range of consulting services to both public and independent schools, equipping teachers and support personnel to effectively serve these exceptional students.

We continue to run school year and summer Socialization Groups for children, teens, and young adults. These groups have been the focus of the practice for over 25 years. Knippenberg, Patterson & Associates is dedicated to providing client-centered, quality therapeutic services delivered with the highest level of attention to clinical care.

Therapists & Staff

  • Craig Knippenberg

    Craig Knippenberg LCSW, M.Div.

    Mr. Knippenberg received a master's degree in Clinical Social Work from the University of Denver and a Master of Divinity (with a focus in pastoral counseling) from the Iliff School of Theology. A licensed social worker, Craig counsels individuals and families; his expertise is with children and adolescents. He developed and has conducted /supervised the CONNECT group program for the past twenty nine years. He is co-founder of the Neurobehavioral Training Center of Denver and trains professionals to conduct groups. He also lectures on social/emotional growth and self-esteem and has twice been a guest lecturer at University of California's MIND Institute.

    He worked at the Havern Center, Inc. for learning disabled students for over 16 years and has been the consultant for St. Anne's Episcopal School for the past 13 years. He is the former president of the Attention Deficit Disorder Advocacy Group, a former board member of the Colorado Tourette Syndrome Association and has served as former chairman of the Professional Advisory Board of the Rocky Mountain Chapter of CHADD. He currently serves on the Board of Trustees for Denver Academy (one of the country's largest schools for students who learn differently). He also serves on the Board of Trustees for Creative Adoptions.

    In 2008, he received the Minoru Yasui Community Volunteer Award for the city of Denver. He also received the Heroes In The Fight award from the National Alliance For the Mentally Ill in 2009 for his volunteer work with chronic mentally ill adults.

  • Lisa Patterson

    Lisa M. Patterson, MA, LPC

    In addition to her work as a therapist, Lisa has been an elementary school teacher in the Jefferson County School District for 26 years. She has worked with Craig Knippenberg for the past fifteen years facilitating groups in the Children's Socialization Program, as well as doing individual and family therapy. Lisa earned a master's degree from the University of Colorado in Counseling Psychology, emphasizing marriage and family therapy.

    Lisa has extensive experience counseling children, adolescents, adults, and families. Her dual and complimentary careers as a teacher and a therapist have given her special insight into the pressures and expectations her young clients and their parents face, as well as unique credibility with their teachers, school social workers, and administrators.

  • Amy Bordelon

    Amy Bordelon, MA, LMFT

    Amy earned her master's degree in marriage and family therapy from Syracuse University. She works with individuals, couples and families, and worked eight years with children with autism and pervasive developmental disorder. Amy specializes in working with addictions, women, couples and families, and children with special needs. She is currently completing the requirements for certified addictions counseling. Amy has extensive group experience, including facilitation of adolescent, elementary school-aged, and adult groups.

  • Matthew Brink

    Dr. Matthew D. Brink

    Dr. Matthew D. Brink is a licensed clinical psychologist who has been practicing psychology for 10 years in Colorado. He specializes in working with adolescents, adults, families, and men. Dr. Brink lectures and writes about men's issues and conducts seminars for men and adolescent boys who are trying to become vibrant and authentic members of their families and communities. With a background in behavioral and existential psychology, Dr. Brink brings a unique sense of spirituality and genuine care that flows through all of the work he does. As a psychologist he also does psychological evaluations, including educational and learning disability assessments.

  • Michelle Cleckler

    Michelle Cleckler, PsyD

    Dr. Michelle Cleckler is a Licensed Clinical Psychologist specializing in working with children and adolescents. Dr. Cleckler earned her doctorate in clinical psychology at Pacific University in Portland, OR. She has worked conducting psychological evaluations in a variety of settings including the public school system, juvenile correctional facilities, community mental health centers, and out-patient mental health clinics. She recently worked as a Licensed School Psychologist conducting evaluations and advocating for children in need of special educational services. Dr. Cleckler has also worked conducting individual therapy, group therapy, and family therapy with children with emotional disturbances.

  • Marian Curtis

    Marian Curtis, LCSW - Clinical Care Coordinator

    Marian Curtis has over 20 years of clinical experience as a social worker in the Denver area. Her particular expertise in caring for children and adolescents makes her an invaluable asset to Knippenberg, Patterson & Associates. Whether as a therapist on in-patient units; Crisis Evaluator in the ER of Children's Hospital; or the Intake Coordinator of a treatment facility, Marian has always enjoyed talking with parents to help match the needs of their child with the proper course of treatment.

  • Julianne Mitchell

    Nathaniel Ellison, M.A.

    Prior to receiving his master's degree at the University of Denver, Nathaniel worked with a number of local mental health agencies. He has served as the Youth Development Programmer for Child and Youth Services (an agency similar to the Boys and Girls Club within the military), the former Cleo Wallace Centers, Denver Health and Hospitals, Denver Public Schools and other local professional agencies.

    He earned a masters degree in Clinical Psychology from the University of Denver, where he currently works with college students. He is one of the state coordinators for Project Eye-To-Eye, a nationally recognized program designed to match college and high school students, in a mentoring capacity. This program strives to foster increased self-advocacy skills and a greater recognition of the innate strengths that students with ADHD can bring to their educational experience.

    As Knippenberg, Patterson & Associates Early Intervention Specialist, Nathaniel works with preschool/kindergarten children to increase impulse control, positive social interactions, and the ability to focus in a group setting such as school.

  • Julie Gelwick

    Julie Gelwick, MSW, LCSW

    Julie earned her Master's Degree in Social Work from the University of Denver, and her Bachelor's Degree in Psychology from Miami University of Ohio. She has over 10 years of post graduate experience as a therapist, working with individuals, children, and families in the child welfare system. She has also facilitated women's support groups, addressing problems such as depression, coping skills, and parenting. Julie also works with trauma, relationships, and at risk youth. She is certified (Level II) in EMDR (Eye Movement Desensitization and Reprocessing), a therapeutic technique used in the treatment of trauma.

    Julie believes in using a strengths-based approach to empower individuals and families to make positive changes in their lives.

  • Richard Goldstein

    Richard Goldstein

    For the past 15 years Richard has been working with children and families as a teacher, elementary school principal, and therapist. Through warmth and insight Richard is able to enlighten and guide individuals and families toward meaningful growth. Richard completed his Masters in Counseling Psychology from City University of Seattle in 2003. His combination of experience in the classroom as well as in administration has helped him understand what the child feels, visualize what the teachers see, and hear what the parents are saying. This understanding can facilitate meaningful growth and open up channels of communication, with lifelong benefits to the child and family. Richard works with individuals, couples and groups.

  • Rachel Moses

    Rachel Moses, MA, LPC

    Rachel graduated from Truman State University with a major in communications, and has her Master's Degree in Counseling from Colorado Christian University. Prior to studying in Colorado she spent four and half years in Munich, Germany working with middle school and high school students. In addition to her work with Knippenberg, Patterson and Associates, Rachel has experience with play therapy for children, adolescents, young adults, and domestic violence. Rachel takes a holistic approach, believing that there are many factors that affect an individual's well-being. She explores how past and present experiences affect emotional, cognitive, psychological, social, physical and spiritual well-being in her clients.

  • Angie Rothkamp

    Angie Rothkamp, MA, LPC

    Angie earned a Masters degree from Loyola University Chicago and a Bachelors degree from St. Cloud State, Minnesota before moving to Colorado in 1998. As an LPC for over 14 years she has worked in a variety of settings including residential treatment, mental health agencies and in elementary, middle, and high schools. Angie enjoys working with all ages of children, adolescents, adults, new mothers, families, and groups. In her work she likes to address the emotional, physical, and spiritual wellbeing of her clients. She works to uncover and build upon strengths and nurture the process of change. In her off-time she nurtures her two children, 5 and 7 years old.

  • Llyn Satriano

    Llyn Satriano, Billing Manager

    Llyn Satriano brings over thirty years of experience in office administration and account services for Satriano Brothers and Century Twenty One Distinguished Properties. Llyn, an avid golfer, lives in Scottsdale, Arizona and offices out of her home for Knippenberg, Patterson & Associates.

  • Cindy Souser

    Cindy Souser

    Currently in the process of earning her Master's degree in Marriage and Family Therapy, from Argosy University, Cindy brings more than 27 years experience as an educator specializing in adolescents from 5th through 12th grade. Today she is a teacher at Denver Academy where her experience in teaching combines with her ability to guide and counsel young people and their famiies as they navigate the challenges of learning differences and neurological disabilities with the everyday difficulties faced by adolescents today. It has been as a result of her passion to help these young individuals that has lead her to hone her skills with a Master's degree which will enable her to work more extensively with both young clients and their families in and out of the classroom setting in an effort to gain greater continuity and success for her clients.

    Prior to her position at Denver Academy, Cindy taught at Graland Country Day School for 11 years where among her many contributions she developed a ground breaking Life Skills curriculum to help students gain competency to successfully handle the pressures and challenges that adolescents and their families face everyday. Prior to Graland, and immediately upon graduation from the University of Colorado at Boulder, where she gained a BA in Education, Cindy was a middle school teacher for 11 years with the Aurora Public Schools.

    As one of the newest professionals to join the Knippenberg, Patterson & Associates team, Cindy brings a fresh, direct and passionate approach to helping parents and their children create thoughtful, caring, and effective interactions in their relationships using equal amounts of intellect, patience, love and humor.

  • Logan Williamson

    Logan Williamson, M.S.

    Logan earned his Master's degree in Counseling Psychology from the University of North Texas. He works with individuals, couples and families, and has specialized since 2004 in working with children and young adults who are on the ADHD and Autism spectrum. His experience ranges from intensive behavioral training to more supportive roles, including working in inpatient and outpatient settings, as well as advocating for clients in their environment. This variety allows him to tailor interventions for each client depending on their needs.

    Logan also has experience in neuropsychological, intelligence, and personality test administration and interpretation.
