Therapy & Counseling
Expert Therapeutic Care for Every Life Stage
From early childhood through young adulthood, KPLA's licensed therapists help kids, teens, and families build the skills and resilience they need to thrive — not just cope.
Most families who find us have already been through some version of support that didn't quite fit. Not because it was an ineffective approach but because ADHD, autism, anxiety, and learning differences don't show up in isolation, and they can't be treated that way.
When a child's challenges overlap, they need a clinician who understands the full picture and a plan that goes beyond addressing a diagnosis or behavior.
At KPLA, we don’t believe in one-size-fits-all therapy. Every child and family has a unique story, and effective treatment starts with truly understanding it.

Evidence-based and creative techniques to build lasting skills for your child.
Our therapists focus exclusively on children, teens, young adults, and families facing neurodivergent challenges. This isn't a general practice; it's a team built around the developmental needs of young people facing unique challenges
We look at the full picture. Neurological, emotional, social, and family dynamics because lasting change doesn’t happen in isolation
Our therapists work with parents as partners, providing coaching, feedback, and strategies you can use at home
We use proven therapeutic approaches, including CBT, DBT, play therapy, and EMDR, but we never lose sight of the relationship and connection for your child's unique set of needs
Founded in 1986, KPLA has supported thousands of Colorado families. Our reputation is built on trust and results
Whether your child needs individual therapy, your family needs help communicating, or your young adult needs guidance launching into independence, we have the right fit.
One-on-one therapy for children, teens, and young adults navigating ADHD, anxiety, depression, autism, and more.
Strengthening family systems through parent coaching, marital support, and family therapy.
Specialized trauma processing using EMDR for PTSD, anxiety, disturbing memories, and abuse recovery.
Structured coaching for young adults who need help launching into independence.
IEP/504 advocacy, testing interpretation, and school communication support.
Every young person faces challenges. But when anxiety, ADHD, depression, autism, or trauma start interfering with school, friendships, and family life, professional support makes the difference.
KPLA’s individual therapy provides a safe, confidential space where your child or teen can work through what’s bothering them with a therapist who specializes in exactly what they’re dealing with.
• Anxiety and worry (social anxiety, generalized anxiety, school refusal) • ADHD and executive function challenges • Autism spectrum and social communication differences • Depression and mood disorders • Anger, defiance, and behavioral issues • Trauma, grief, and loss • Divorce and family transitions • Learning disabilities and academic struggles • Self-esteem, identity, and social skills

When a child is struggling, the whole family feels it. The stress, the arguments, the guilt, the feeling that nothing you try is working — it’s exhausting. KPLA’s family therapy services help the entire system heal — not just the child in the spotlight.
Practical, expert-guided strategies for managing behavior, improving communication, and reducing household conflict.
Structured sessions that bring the whole family together to address patterns, heal relationships, and build a stronger foundation.
Counseling for couples and co-parents navigating the unique stressors of raising a child with additional needs.

Trauma doesn’t always look like what you expect. It can show up as anxiety that won’t respond to traditional therapy, anger that seems disproportionate, nightmares, or avoidance. EMDR (Eye Movement Desensitization and Reprocessing) is a specialized, evidence-based therapy that helps the brain reprocess disturbing thoughts and memories so they lose their emotional charge.
• Post-traumatic stress (PTSD) • Anxiety that hasn’t responded to other treatments • Complicated grief and loss • Sexual or physical abuse recovery • Disturbing or intrusive memories • Negative self-beliefs rooted in past experiences • Stress reduction and emotional regulation
Research consistently shows EMDR produces lasting results, often in fewer sessions than traditional therapy.

Graduation doesn’t mean your child is ready for what comes next. For many young adults — especially those who’ve navigated ADHD, autism, learning differences, or emotional challenges — the transition out of high school can feel overwhelming. KPLA’s post-high school coaching provides the structural guidance and emotional support young adults need to get unstuck and move forward.
• Goal-setting and accountability for education, career, and life skills • Identifying social, emotional, and cognitive obstacles to independence • Building executive function and organizational skills • Processing the emotions that come with uncertainty and self-doubt • Supporting motivation and engagement with their own future

Creating a strong partnership with your child’s school is one of the most powerful ways to support their learning and development. But navigating IEPs, 504 plans, testing results, and school meetings can feel confusing and overwhelming. KPLA’s school support services bridge the gap between home and school.
• Interpretation of psycho-educational and neuropsychological testing results • IEP and 504 Plan development, review, and advocacy • School meeting preparation and attendance • Home-school communication strategies • Accommodation recommendations that work at school and at home

For families where faith is a central part of life, the spiritual dimension of healing matters. Several of our therapists are trained in pastoral counseling and can integrate your family’s religious values — from the Christian tradition — into the therapeutic process.
This isn’t a separate program. It’s an option within our existing therapy services for individuals and families who want their faith to be part of the conversation.

We provide therapy for children, adolescents, teens, young adults, and families. Our youngest clients typically start around age 4-5, and we work with young adults into their mid-twenties.
If your child is struggling in ways that affect their daily functioning — at school, with friendships, at home, or emotionally — therapy can help. You don't need a diagnosis or a crisis to reach out.
We are a pay for services practice. While we don't take insurance we are able to provide you a super-bill to submit to your carrier for potential coverage.
It depends on the child and the challenges. Some clients see significant progress in 8-12 sessions, while others benefit from longer-term support.
Therapy is ongoing treatment focused on building skills, processing emotions, and creating change. Testing is a one-time comprehensive evaluation that identifies diagnoses and specific recommendations.
Absolutely. Parent involvement is central to our approach. Your therapist will share strategies, give you feedback, and work with you as a partner.
Yes. We offer both in-person sessions at our Denver and Littleton offices and telehealth sessions for families who prefer virtual therapy.
The first session is about getting to know your child and your family. Your therapist will ask questions, listen carefully, and start building trust.
EMDR is an evidence-based therapy for processing trauma. It has been extensively researched and is recognized by the APA and WHO. Yes, it is safe and effective for children and teens.
At KPLA, we specialize in your child's specific challenges and are intentional about matching with the right clinician.
You've read this far because something isn't working — and you want it to change. That instinct is exactly right. The first step is a free, no-pressure consultation where we learn about your child, answer your questions, and help you figure out the best path forward.
